What Can National Nacho Day Teach Us About Crisis Communications?

nachos-266224_1280If you didn’t know, today is National Nacho Day, which is a great time to remind everyone of two things:

1) Nachos are delicious, and

2) An important part of every business continuity plan is effective crisis communications. For proof, we direct you to the summer of 2013, when a viral photo of a Taco Bell employee licking taco shells started making the rounds on social media. The fast food chain moved at lightning speed to combat the negative buzz, by quickly firing the employee, then assuring everyone on the social networks and in the media that the food had never been meant for consumption — it was only intended as a joke.

Believe it or not, that was all it took to get positive company perception back to its pre-taco-licking-photo levels!
