“This year we honor Barney Pelant, who has served both DRI and our profession since 1992,” announced DRI Board of Directors Chairman Jerome Ryan. “Affectionately referred to as ‘Mr. BIA’ by his peers, his service to DRI includes acting as our first Executive Director, Board member, and Certification Commission. Today he continues to serve as one of our most sought after DRI education instructors.”

The DRI International Honor Roll was created by the DRI Board of Directors to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to both DRI and the business continuity profession.

Pelant was part of the founding group of DRI International and one of the contributors to the Common Body of Knowledge, now known as the Professional Practices. He is widely recognized in the BC/DR industry as a subject matter expert in the area of Business Impact Analysis (BIA) and developed and taught DRI’s first BIA course.

Pelant’s association with DRI began in 1992. He was DRI’s first Executive Director, an unpaid position at the time. He served on the Board of Directors of DRI on two separate occasions. He also served on the DRI Certification Board (now known as the Certification Commission) and served as chair of this board. At that time, positions on the Certification Board were elected by the Certified Professionals.

A long-time DRI instructor, Pelant is motivated to provide his students with the best opportunity learn the application of the Professional Practices while highlighting the courseware with practical application based on his experience as a practitioner.

The very first person to take and pass the Master Case Study Examination, as such he was chosen to be the master of ceremonies at the induction of the first group of MBCPs in the Order of Sword and Shield National Honor Society.

Pelant has owned and operated his own successful consulting business, Barney F. Pelant & Associates, and regularly teaches or is a speaker at various conferences and industry meetings.
